Schools are an ideal environment for fostering social inclusion and integration. They allow parents and children who are new to Ireland to meet other parents living nearby and develop friendships and a local network within the community. An increasingly ethnically and culturally diverse Ireland presents new challenges for schools. However, diversity in the classroom can also help normalise different cultures, customs and creeds in the lives of children and the wider community.
Contributing to a safe space in schools where diversity and interculturalism are celebrated is a key theme of JRS outreach. JRS delivers tailor made presentations to students in Primary and Secondary education, provides resources for teachers and migrant parents and assists principals and other school personnel with the development of intercultural events and other activities.
