JRS in Great Limerick Run
The second Great Limerick Run took place on Sunday May 2nd, part of Limerick’s celebrations as European City of Sport.
There were three races a 10K, Half-Marathon and Marathon. Over 6,600 runners participated and several thousand walkers.
JRS Ireland supported seven asylum seekers to run in the 10K event. Mol Ishaq, Moussa and Zenzo reside in the Westbourne Centre in Limerick city and Amin, Yassine, Saidi and Chinazo live in Mount Trenchard, Foynes Co. Limerick. All completed the race with Mol Ishaq finishing in the top 50 with a time of 40 minutes and 30 seconds.
Eugene Quinn, National Director, JRS Ireland who also completed the 10K said, “Participating in sport and running in events like the Great Limerick Run are very positive for the mental and physical health of people seeking asylum who live in direct provision.”
