Summer Programme 2014
The JRS Ireland Summer Programme is back for another year offering a range of activities and excursions for the children of asylum seekers living in Direct Provision centres in Dublin.
Designed to improve the health and wellbeing of children living in the Direct Provision accommodation system, the range of activities chosen will offer the opportunity for play, integration and the development of social skills outside such an institutionalised environment.
Thanks to the generous support of IMPACT, CDYSB and Crosscare; free drumming workshops, magic shows, story telling sessions and trips to local beaches, playgrounds and the Clara Lara fun park will be provided during July.
Children, aged 4-12 and living in Direct Provision accommodation, will be the primary beneficiaries of this year's programme. However, due to the nature of the activities, both the families of participating children and local communities will also derive significant value. As much as possible, JRS Ireland will seek to create opportunties for participants to meet their classmates, clubmates and other local children in an environment free from the complications and stigma associated with their status as asylum seekers.
The programme is a key tenet of JRS Ireland’s mission to accompany, serve and advocate for the cause of the forcibly displaced in Ireland.
