Safe and Legal Access to Europe

Image of perimeter fencing at Spain-Morroco border at Ceuta.The Jesuit Refugee Service and the Jesuit Migrant Service (JMS) Spain have issued a joint call for the creation of safe and legal pathways to Europe for forced migrants seeking refuge. 

One year has now passed since 14 people died during a confrontation with Spanish border guards near Ceuta but effective training and safeguards have still not be implemented.

Opportunity to end lengthy stays in Direct Provision must not be lost

Bishops Reiterate Concerns About Length of Time in Direct Provision

Three in seven asylum seekers have been waiting at least 5 years since they first applied for asylum in Ireland.  One in seven are waiting seven years or more.

Roundtable on Direct Provision

Joining other members from the Forum on Direct Provision - which seeks to positively influence Government policy through dialogue and debate - JRS Ireland National Director, Eugene Quinn, will attend.

The consultation will take place on Thursday 18th September.
